New Logo!
Much appreciation to the talented Mark Penacerrada of NVSBLAB for his time and patience turning our vision into a brand new logo! We’re excited to share with you all what we’ve been working on.
Our logo incorporates a few intersecting themes. We used the Filipino concept of Kapwa to process the ways we can hold community and space for each other, and the ways we want to see ourselves reflected in this work. We chose a bowl of rice because every meal we had growing up started with this humble grain, and it’s a staple ingredient that is shared across most Asian foodways and a survival food in times of war, conflict, and migration. A little goes a long way. In Vietnamese, a common greeting is, ăn cơm chưa? Did you eat rice yet? is the literal translation. The round shape represents a circling back to our history, traditions, and past to inform our present and provides a foundation for our futures. The roots of the tree doubles as cracks in the bowl. This was driven by the philosophy of kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery. Kintsugi treats the breakage and repair as part of the history of the object, rather than something to disguise. In the same way, we use food to acknowledge the trauma that exists within the AANHPI community, collectively and individually. Through the Rooted Recipes Project, we are transforming our pain and shame in order to heal, reclaim, and practice justice. Thank you again to Mark for bringing this vision to graphic life. |
